Ruto-Raila Camps To Hold Parallel Tallying Centers

The Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya and the Kenya Kwanza coalitions have announced plans to establish their parallel tallying centres that will collect and tabulate results from the next week Tuesday's polls.

This was confirmed Tuesday by  the United Democratic Alliance Secretary General Veronica Maina representing the  Kenya Kwanza and the Azimio's Presidential Chief Agent Saitabao Ole Kanchory.

Both Maina and Kanchory agreed that the decision seeks to ensure transparency and accuracy of the election results in all the 46,229 polling stations across the country.

"We have ensured that all the polling stations across the 47 counties will have our agents. And we assure all our voters that no vote which will be casted in favor of our presidential candidate will go to waste. It will be counted and tallied. We will have a very specific view that every vote casted in a station is the same declared by the presiding officer," Veronica Maina told Citizen TV.

On his part Kanchory said, "We have a very robust management system that will ensure every polling station to the polling centre will be effectively manned and on the results transmission day."

He added, "We have necessary tools to ensure that the results are tallied accurately. And I assure you that we will be the fist ones to call this election."

However, the electoral commission chairperson Wafula Chebukati has been on the record saying that the IEBC will be the one to declare the winner of the highly contested race, as mandated by the constitution.

“You can count the results, but of course, do not declare. That one you leave to me,”  Chebukati said while he granted media and civil society organisations permission to set up a parallel tallying centre in June, this year.
