Two suspects linked to the home break-in Gataka area of Ongata Rongai have been arrested, after they used the details of their victim to withdraw money from an M-Pesa stall in Mwiki area, Kasarani.

The duo withdrew Kshs 240,000 that had been illegally transferred from the woman's account on Sunday, June 12 and were pounced on Tuesday, June 14 after they entered the bank details of the victim to facilitate the transfer of the funds.

The police revealed that the two arrested were the Mpesa agent at the shop and the man who went to withdraw the cash, who said that he was instructed by one of the attackers to do so.

This was after a manhunt was launched to trace the rest of the gunmen who have since gone into hiding by a team of detectives from the Special Service Unit.

The sleuths upon their intensive investigations believe that the leader of the gang is a rogue police officer, and are hopeful that the suspects in custody will reveal more information that will help the police to close in on the gang's location.

The attack shook the country after it was captured on CCTV and footage shared widely on social media which showed the heavily-armed thugs accost the lady who was driving into her compound, rough her up and then proceeded to steal money and electronic appliances from her house.

The 2.00 am incident video showed two of the thugs wielding pistols and another with an AK-47 rifle, and the other with a machete that he used to slash and break the window of the vehicle the lady was in. They forced her into the house where they began ransacking and taking valuables while one of the thugs forced her to disclose her bank details.

This elicited public outcry with Kenyans asking the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to spring into action to bring the thugs to book, prompting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i to visit the area to reassure area residents that action would be taken.

Among the directives he issued was the construction of Kandisi police post, as well as the follow-up on all criminal activities in the area, to bring to a halt the spike in crime which has crippled activities in the region.
