Deputy President William Ruto's has come under sharp criticism after his motorcade allegedly overrun a man in Kiambu County on Sunday, September 19.

Mr Ruto was in Kiambu attending a church service at the African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA), when his motorcade was photographed allegedly having run over a man who was part of the crowd that had flocked the road to see him.

However, now.co.ke could not independently verify the claims as there is no police report obtained with police officers from the area saying they are not aware of the same.

In June 2019, Mr Ruto's motorcade run over and killed a seven-year old boy during a tour of Western Kenya. The incident attracted condemnation from across the country with a section of individuals accusing him of negligence after the family of the boy said it had been ignored.

At the same time, Mr ruto announced a departure from making political pronouncements while in religious places.

Mr Ruto, who is seeking to succeed his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta, when the country goes to the polls on August 9, 2022, says he has made his stand on politicking while on the pulpit.

"I am not going to make any political pronouncements while standing on a church pulpit," announced Mr Ruto.

Mr Ruto was accompanied by Turkana Governor, Josphat Nanok, Members of Parliament Kimani Ichung'wah (Kikuyu), Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira), Alice Wahome (Kandara), Njuguna Wanjiku (Kiambaa), George Kariuki (Ndia), James Gakuya (Embakasi North), Victor Kioko Munyaka (Machakos Town), Isaac Mwaura (nominated), Gathoni Wamuchomba (Kiambu County), Silvanus Osoro (South Mugirango) and former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.

The Deputy President has been embroiled in a succession battle with the opposition Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Raila Odinga, and the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) principals Musalia Mudavadi of ANC, Kalonzo Musyoka of Wiper, Gideon Moi of KANU and Moses Wetangula of Ford Kenya.

Mr Kenyatta is seen as opposed to his deputy's presidency, accusing him of being a stumbling block in the realization of the Jubilee Party agenda.

But will Mr Kenyatta's plan to lock out Ruto out of the presidency work? As things stand, it is now a wait-and-see situation.
