ICT Cabinet Secretary, Joe Mucheru in a rejoinder to the election theft claims made by Deputy President William Ruto's campaign team, has maintained that he is the last person the team should be worried about in the run-up to the August 9 elections.

Mucheru took to his Twitter page in response to a report of the team's allegation of use of his influence as the ICT Cabinet Secretary in favour of a particular presidential candidate after the CS attended a meeting with Nyeri leaders hosted by Azimio One Kenya leader Raila Odinga.

The CS vehemently denied the claims after the DP's team led by Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok sent a letter to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) alleging that Mucheru had openly stated that he would work within his ministry together with Odinga to ensure that the election would be free and transparent.

“We call out CS Mucheru and his colleagues for their open, flagrant and shameless association and promotion of one political coalition and its presidential candidate,” Nanok stated in the letter.

“We have also noted public statements of their commitment to abuse State office, misappropriate public resources, pervert State institutions and defile the integrity of government in the quest to secure an illegitimate win for their project.”

Mucheru hit out at the governor, asking him to refrain from hypocrisy as he was also serving in the same government that he was accusing the CS of misappropriating resources.

"A Governor, campaigning for a Presidential candidate, who continues to remain as the Deputy President, is writing to IEBC about a CS in the same Government, to explain how he will use resources? How about the Governor and the DP, what resources are they using? Who is fooling who?" Mucheru posed.

The campaign secretariat had asked the electoral body to sanction the CS, and over his statements made at the Odinga-ked event as they claimed that it had become a trend by cabinet secretaries to circumvent the rule of law and involve themselves in politics, which the ICT CS frowned upon stating that it was within his right to support the Azimio One Kenya Coalition party.

"I saw the polls have come out today and maybe the numbers are not looking good and people are looking for excuses. I am a minister and I am allowed to endorse a candidate I choose," he stated on Thursday, May 5 referencing the Trends and Insights for Africa (TIFA) presidential opinion polls.
