A new survey conducted by the Intel Research Solutions(IRS)has placed Kenya Kwanza Alliance leader Deputy President William Ruto as the most popular presidential candidate in the run-up to the August 9 polls with a 51.2 percent approval rating.

He is followed by the Azimio One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Amollo Odinga who has an approval rating of 42.5 percent, which is quite a large margin of 8.7 between the two leaders who have often trailed each other in other polls.

According to the poll, the study was conducted during the month of June with a sample size of 17,127, opting to use a text-based technology platform to carry out the survey owing to the high mobile phone penetration in the country,

The pollster also reveals that the portion of voters which is undecided is still significant as it has trounced both Agano Party's David Mwaure Waihiga and Roots Party George Wajackoyah's popularity who are the other two presidential contenders.

The DP's strongholds in the study seem to have given him an upper hand in the polls, with 73 percent from the Mt Kenya East region, 67.2 percent in Mt Kenya West region and 82.8 percent in the Central Rift region.

Raila on his part enjoys the lead in his strongholds as well with Nyanza leading with 87.2 percent, South Eastern Kenya at 54.6 percent and Coast with 50.8 percent.

The polls has revealed that the two leaders seem to be neck-to-neck in majority of the regions , following each other closely by slight margins in Maa Rift, Western Kenya and Nairobi.

This comes days after the Mizani Africa polls that placed Raila ahead of Ruto at 47.5 percent , and the DP coming at 46.6 percent, with the Azimio candidate's approval showing a steady rise and the latter's on the decline, which was attributed to their running mate choices.

It showed that Raila gained after picking Martha Karua to be his running mate while Ruto dropped after picking Rigathi Gachagua.
