Raila Calls Convenes Crisis Meeting For ODM Members

Azimio presidential aspirant Raila Odinga has called for a crisis meeting to be held next week for all elected members of parliament in the ODM party.

The purpose of the meeting is to square out house leadership ahead of the parliamentary sittings.

The second agenda of the meeting will be to front names for both the chairperson and vice-chairperson positions of House committees.

The impromptu meeting was initially planned for tomorrow Thursday but it was moved to next week due to the ongoing induction of legislators at Safari Park Hotel while the induction of senators is ongoing in Naivasha

Oduor Ong’wen, executive director for ODM reiterated that the meeting had been slotted for the beginning of next week even though the actual date was yet to be communicated.

The majority leader position was given to Opiyo Wandayi, a member of parliament for Ugunja Constituency during the retreat at  Machakos. John Mbadi expressed displeasure that his junior would be handed a position that belonged to him in the previous house.

John Mbadi has since held talks with the party leader Raila Odinga on what he termed as acts of betrayal. As result party members were called upon to review the proposed list before the final submission to the speaker

Chief Whip position was given to Suna East MP, Junet Mohammed who would be deputized by nominated MP Sabina Chege.

In the Senate, the coalition picked Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo for the position of Minority Leader to be deputized by Kitui's Enock Wambua.

While at Safari Park, majority leader Opiyo Wandayi chaired a meeting for elected parliamentarians where they discussed how best to execute their roles. There was an attendance of over 100 MPs.

However, John Mbadi was conspicuously missing from the meeting.

The appointment of Suna East MP as chief whip has also contributed to wrangles in the party according to most ODM MPs. Apart from undermining his colleagues, he has been accused of contributing to Raila’s loss in the August polls.

Sources indicate that Raila is working towards a United House for the success of legislative proposals he wants to make.
