Police have revealed that Former Permanent Secretary John Kochellah lost his gun under mysterious circumstances on the night of Tuesday, June 15.

The former PS made a report at the Kilimani Police station claiming that his registered firearm had gone missing after spending the better part of the day visiting several places in the city.

Kilimani OCPD Andrew Mbogo stated the former East African Affairs PS had made trips to various business establishments and upon his return home he realised that his pistol was missing, sending him into a panic.

“The former PS said he first visited Car and General to purchase a motor vehicle, then he went to have lunch at Golden Spot located in Kilimani area before heading to Nairobi Club and then later home where he discovered that he did not have his pistol, which was loaded with 9 rounds of ammunitions,” he said.

He then resorted to retracing his steps which proved futile as the gun was still gone , prompting him to report the matter to the police to expedite its recovery  before it landed in the wrong hands.

Konchella is a licensed firearm holder and has been for the last eight years according to the police.

A probe has been launched into the disappearance of the gun with the police hopeful that it would be safely returned to their custody.

“We have not recovered the weapon but efforts to get it back are ongoing. It was reported here,” Mbogo added.

Konchellah who was the previous Chairman of National Environment Management Authority (Nema), served in President Uhuru's first term as PS but was laid off in 2015 during the clean up of cabinet officials dogged with allegations of grand corruption and mismanagement. He is still yet to be implicated for the alleged crimes.
