A Kenyan family based in the US is distraught hoping to find their kin who mysteriously disappeared in February.

According to the family, their daughter Irene Gakwa, who is a nursing student mysteriously disappeared in March after sending a strange text message claiming that she would be relocating to Texas because she did not like it in the State of Wyoming in Gillette.

Her brother Chris Gakwa noted that their suspicions rose following his sister's unusual silence prompting them to launch investigations.

“We have a reason to believe that something terrible might have happened since she is not known for being silent for such a long time,” he told the Nation.

“She used to call our parents almost on a daily basis and also kept in touch with us. My sister is not a silent person because we believe she might not be okay currently.”

Following investigations conducted, Gakwa's boyfriend Nathan Nightman was arrested and questioned regarding Ms. Gakwa's disappearance.

Upon interrogation by officers, Nightman denied seeing her noting that she said goodbye to him as she left Gillette in March.

Police investigations revealed that Nightman stole around Ksh 366,600 from Ms. Gakwa and spent Ksh 60,000 on a pair of boots and trousers, prompting his arrest.

At the time of his arrest, Nightman was caught paying for groceries at Walmart using Ms. Gakwa's bank card, police also revealed that he made a total of ten transactions.

He will remain under police custody as detectives poke holes into the puzzle of Ms. Gakwa's mysterious disappearance.
