The Commission for University Education (CUE) has revoked its recognition of Nairobi senator Johnson Sakaja's degree from Team University in Uganda that he claimed he acquired in Bachelor of Science in Management in 2016.

The commission stated that despite initially clearing his certificates he had presented before the IEBC to allow him to vie in the election, it was now compelled to authenticate his degree hence the revocation, according to a letter signed by chair Prof Chacha Nyaigotti-Chacha and addressed to the senator.

"CUE has, however, received material information about the authenticity of the degree you presented from Team University that will require further investigation to ascertain the validity of the said degree,” the letter read.

“Consequently, in accordance to (sic) the CUE recognition procedures, we hereby revoke the recognition of your degree from the aforementioned university,” Prof Chacha remarked.

The commission pegged its decision to revoke the certificate on the issues that have arisen regarding the validity of the certificate eliciting public scrutiny, which it has now claimed may not only be academic but also criminal in nature.

As investigations continue into the same, Sakaja's candidature is now in the hands of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Dispute Resolution Tribunal to decide if he still in the race pending the findings of the probe.

As of now, the University of Nairobi(UoN) has dropped the UDA aspirant's name from the 'Notable Alumni' list maintaining that he was still a student at the institution and could not be certified as a honorary graduate as proof to back his bid for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat.
