Rongai Robbery: Probe Unearths More Suspects, Pistol And Cash Stolen In Break-In

 As the probe into the chilling Ongata Rongai attack intensifies, police have issued an update revealing the recovery of a firearm, cash and clothes allegedly belonging to the robbers captured on CCTV robbing a woman at gunpoint in her home.

Through a statement released on its social media pages, the National Police Service on Wednesday, June 15 stated that it had widen its dragnet , and had managed to arrest two more suspects in connection to the robbery that occurred on Sunday, June 12 at 2am at the residence on Gataka Road.

“Following the cruel attack, molestation and subsequent robbery of a family in Ongata Rongai recently, police mobilised in real-time and continue to conduct an in-depth investigation into the heinous crime with [the] objective of bringing to book all those involved in the planning and execution of the robbery with violence,” the statement read.

“To date, four suspects have been apprehended and are aiding police with further investigation. So far, they are cooperating, and they shall be arraigned as per the law.

“In due course of the investigation, detectives have recovered one pistol; make Browning, some cash money proceeds of the robbery and items of clothing worn by the robbers on that fateful night,” the statement signed by Police Spokesperson Bruno Shioso stated read.

Two suspects were nabbed on Tuesday, June 14 after they used the bank details belonging to their victim to withdraw Kshs 240,000 from an Mpesa shop in Mwiki, Kasarani that had been illegally transferred on the night of the incident.

The police had expressed confidence that the duo would lead them to the rest of the gang and less than 24 hours later, two more suspects were nabbed and the firearm recovered.

The househelp who was seen in the video opening the gate for her employer and escaping upon the sight of the robbers was also  questioned for any leads into the case with the detectives hoping that they would close in on the robbers' location who are believed to be led by a rogue cop who was the mastermind behind the Gataka robbery and two other home break-ins in the same neighborhood.

The residential area is now under the radar of law enforcement with Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai instructing a crackdown to sniff out criminal gangs that have wreaked terror in the residential area, as well as the amping up of patrol and surveillance to keep at bay such attacks.
