A nationwide power outage is currently being experienced in the country as Kenyans castigate the Kenya Power and Lighting Company(KPLC) for the blackout that has crippled business operations countrywide.

Regions including Mombasa, Nairobi, Nakuru, Busia , Makueni, Nyeri and Kirinyaga are among those disconnected as disgruntled Kenyans demand for an explanation over the same with many lamenting the monopoly the power supplier enjoys and others demanding for prior communication in the event of an outage.

The company has given a statement explaining the cause of the power outage, asking for patience as it works to restore power supply as soon as possible.

"At 11.09 am this morning, we lost power supply due to a system disturbance affecting parts of Nairobi, Coast and Mt Kenya regions," Kenya Power stated adding that an update on the restoration will be issued in due course.

The same was experienced on January 11, 2022 when the country was left without power after a pylon collapsed along the Embakasi- Syokimau line that is vital to the national power grid.

The pylon reportedly collapsed due to vandalism and negligence on KPLC's part even after members of the public raised alarm over the low-lying power lines.
