NCIC Statement Ahead of The Presidential Results Announcement.

Amidst speculations of the presidential poll winner being done today, the NCIC spokesperson has made a press statement addressing the status quo in the nation.

“We would like to call upon the winner to be magnanimous and reach across the divide to make peace and forge a way forward. We ask for the runners up to be dignified and treated with decorum. This also applies to citizens. Let us all be magnanimous and appreciate the pain we all feel when we loose. Let us not insult each other or gloat unnecessarily over the others. He insisted on the need to keep the peace and following legal redress incase one is dissatisfied with the election results.”said the commissioner.

Constitutionally the IEBC commission has until tomorrow 16th August 2022, to have declared the winner of the presidential polls.

At the Bomas of Kenya activities have switched from tallying of results to now verification which is the final process before elections are officially announced.The NCIC commissioner has urged Kenyans to avoid peddling fake news through social media and wait for the national returning officer Mr.Wafula Chebukati because only he has the mandate to make that announcement.

“We are all one in one nation called Kenya. We must also recognise that Kenya achieved elections bila noma which was our rallying call over the last year. We must now accept presidential results bila noma just as we have seen various leaders concede defeat.” The commissioner added.

He said the commission commends all leaders that have conceded defeat and those petitioning peacefully.

This years voters turnout was the lowest ever in history . As of 11:00 am the commission had concluded tallying results from 259 constituencies out of the 291 including the diaspora.He has urged Kenyans to remain calm and maintain peace and harmony as they anticipate the announcement.

The NCIC mandate includes;

1) promoting equal opportunity, harmony and peaceful co-existence of persons belonging to different ethnic and racial backgrounds.

2)Promoting tolerance and respect for all religious backgrounds.

3)Promoting conciliation,arbitration,mediation and other forms of conflict resolution mechanisms.
