Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Presidential flagbearer, Raila Odinga has named NARC Kenya party leader Martha Karua as his running mate in the 2022 presidential election bringing to end months of speculations over his deputy choice.

Speaking during a press conference held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Monday, 16, the ODM leader praised Karua for her zeal and exemplary human rights record.

“I needed a true Joshua on my corner, one who will not be a turn coat. After a long search and reflection, together with consultation, I have arrived at the decision that the holder of this position must be a woman,” Odinga remarked.

Karua was selected from a list of 11 candidates who appeared for the vetting process.

Other candidates interviewed for the position were Kitui governor Charity Ngilu, Hassan Joho (Mombasa), Lee Kinyanjui (Nakuru), Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega),  Murang'a Woman Representative Sabina Chege, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya and former Emgwen MP Stephen Tarus.
