Nairobi gubernatorial hopeful Johnson Sakaja is facing a major blow as pressure continues to mount pushing him to set the record straight on whether he is an Actuarial Science graduate from the University of Nairobi.

Despite widespread reports that he does not have a University Degree; which is a requirement for gubernatorial candidates the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission On June 7,  cleared Sakaja to contest the Nairobi gubernatorial seat

However, the University of Nairobi through communications director John Orindi has stated that Sakaja was admitted to the university and was pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science, studied from the first year up to the fourth year, but is yet to graduate from the institution where he undertook the Actuarial Science programme up to the year 2007/2008.

Additionally, the University has told the DCI that Sakaja’s transcripts are incomplete and have not been signed. The aspiring Nairobi Governor has termed the questions surrounding his academic journey as propaganda claiming that his political enemies are subjecting him to unnecessary hiccups

Sakaja is eyeing the Nairobi governor seat and a degree is a mandatory requirement for anyone seeking a governor seat. He has served as the city senator for the past five years after taking over from the former Nairobi governor Mike  Sonko who was ousted after the senate voted against him.

He is contesting for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat on a UDA ticket, with Absa bank Chief Operating Officer James Njoroge Muchiri as his running mate.

Nairobi county has suffered several administration issues after Sonko’s tenure when the government-appointed Nairobi Metropolitan Services Director- General Maj Gen. Mohamed Badi to run the city services including infrastructure and health Services

Ann Kananu officially took over as the third Governor of Nairobi City County serving as the first female governor of the Capital Nairobi.

In her oath of office, Kanani vowed to deliver quality services to the millions of Nairobi residents and uphold the constitution of Kenya.
