Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant Mike Mbuvi Sonko met with his rivals in the race, Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir, and United Democratic Alliance's (UDA), Hassan Omar Hassan in a prayer meeting held on Saturday, May 28 by clergy members from Mombasa.

The former Nairobi Governor took to his social media accounts to share pictures from the event, where he used the opportunity to champion peaceful polls in the run-up to August 9, shunning divisive politics which have taken center stage since the announcement of his quest for the coastal county's top seat.

"I was privileged to attend a Church breakfast meeting at Bahari Beach hotel. We are one and we are all human. As I have always put it, colour, tribe, religion, family background, and societal disbeliefs should not divide us, leaders," Sonko stated.

"We should all fear God and always stick to what we say. We should always respect our people. We should always be ready to help and stand with them at all times. We must always preach peace and love as we campaign," he added.

The Wiper aspirant has been at loggerheads with his competitors, with petitions seeking to bar him from the race filed at the high court over his impeachment, as well as the recent chaos at Mkomani in Mombasa when his convoy was blocked from attending the Azimio rally on Saturday, May 14.

This was after his supporters demanded that he be allowed to the podium deapite his late appearance at the vent, which was contested by Nassir's supporters who expressed their agitation at Sonko's decision to join the gubernatorial race.

Several people were injured in the melee, which led the former governor to be summoned by the Directorate Of Criminal Investigations as his security personnel reportedly shot in the air endangering the lives of the attendees of the event as they scampered for safety.
