Incumbent Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi will be defending his seat in the upcoming elections after Parliamentary aspirant Michael Gumo elbowed out from the August race in his favour.

This comes after Gumo had moved to court to challenge ODM’s decision to nominate Wanyonyi for the seat, a move heavily nullified by the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal (PPDT) ordering the party to conduct fresh nominations within 72 hours.

Speaking on Sunday, May 8, the Azimio la Umoja secretary General Junet Mohammed noted that the decision comes after the Orange Democratic Movement  (ODM) party had consultative talks.

“We had consultations chaired by Odinga and Michael Gumo has accepted to step down in favor of Wanyonyi. The matter has now been sorted those waiting for a fallout should know today is a good Sunday belonging to the Lord,

“Those who wanted a big fallout just know that we have sorted all this out and we will make sure that this seat will be maintained by ODM,” Junet stated.

Mr. Junet further reiterated that all candidates have been granted the liberty to contest for seats they wish, denying that there are zoned areas for ODM.

He however mentioned that should zoning need arise, the process will be seamless.

Wanyonyi who had previously launched his bid for the Nairobi gubernatorial position was asked to drop his bid in favour of Jubilees Polycarp Igathe.
