Wetangula Thrashes Nation Report Linking him to Ballot Papers Printing Tender

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula has denied a Daily Nation report that has linked him with Inform Lykos (Hellas) SA Holdings, to a ballot papers tender by the Independent and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The Nation report established to have seen documents indicating that Wetangula hosted three Greek nationals separately on January 8, 2021 for a one-week stay in the country, starting January 14, 2021 to supply and deliver ballot papers, a printed register of voters, statutory election result declaration forms and election result declaration forms

Commenting on this in an  interview with Citizen TV, Wetangula said described the claims as false and malicious.

"The story is desperately malicious and false in it’s entirety and actionable. I have never had any business. relationship with IEBC. I know nothing about ballot printing or any printing business for that matter," said Wetangula.

According to the  report published on Wednesday, July 6, the local daily cited documents which detailed that the firm won Ksh.3 billion contract in October last year.

"If I have any links with the printing company that I have no knowledge of or from IEBC if they have any commercial relationship with me apart from oversee to 3 businessmen from the ballot printing firm.

Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition yesterday kicked up a storm over what it claimed was ‘interference” in the printing of this year’s General Election ballot papers by a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, whom it accused of frolicking with a group of Greek businessmen awarded the ballots tender in October last year.

They also called for action be taken to protect the General Election from interference through the surreptitious introduction of electoral materials or other unlawful means.

In what was said to be alleged interference of the August 9, polls, Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition team on Tuesday July 5, through secretary-general Junet Mohamed, demanded that IEBC in conjunction with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to thoroughly investgate Wetangula's  relationship with Inform Lykos (Hellas) SA.
