Deputy President William Ruto was missing in action at the brief ceremony that was held at State House Nairobi ahead of the 59th Madaraka Day celebrations at the Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi.

It has emerged that the ceremony was a surprise farewell for the Head of State by the Cabinet Secretaries, and DP Ruto was seemingly left out, and he headed to Uhuru Gardens to wait for his boss to lead the nation in the celebration of his last Madaraka Day as President.

According to the DP's aide, Emmanuel Talam, it was clear that the DP was deliberately excluded from State House.

“He wasn't invited to the State House event,” Talam confirmed.

The Cabinet secretaries organized the brief ceremony in honor of the President to bid him farewell with the help of the State House choir who sang patriotic songs, and they all shared in a dance joined by the First Lady Margaret Kenyatta.

“This one looks different from the ones I am used to but I want to say thank you. We will look forward to all of us having a great day. It will be my last Madaraka as president,” President Kenyatta stated.

He thanked his cabinet for their unwavering support during his tenure.

“I am confident we have laid a firm foundation for those who will come after and continue to build a big, brighter, and more prosperous Kenya from where we have left off,” he added.

DP Ruto meanwhile was at the Gardens receiving the Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Wonie Bio, who has been in the country for a five-day visit.

This display cemented that the fallout between the two leaders was still in full effect despite the declaration on the National Prayer Day that they would put aside their differences and forge toward the elections without bitterness.
