Veteran Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh has been confirmed dead after being shot in the head by a live bullet on Wednesday, May 11.

According to an AFP photographer, Ms. Abu who was shot by Israeli troops lost her life in the line of duty as she was covering a raid on the West Banks Jenin refugee camp.

Another Palestinian journalist working for the Jerusalem-based Al Quds newspaper is also sustaining injuries after being sho alongside Ms. Abu.

Al Jazeera is now accusing the Israeli security forces of killing their employee while she was on assignment condemning the forces and seeking that they are held accountable for their actions.

"Condemn and hold the Israeli occupation forces accountable for deliberately targeting and killing our colleague, Shirleen Abu Akleh,” the Qatar-based broadcaster stated.

The Israeli military defended themselves stating that its forces were under attack with heavy fire and explosives during their operation in Jenin therefore they had to fire back.

They, however, assured that they would launch investigations into the incident noting that it was possible that Palestinian shooters hit the journalists.

The Palestinian authority heavily condemned the act terming it a "shocking crime”
