Museveni Bars Traditional Healers And Herbalists From Attending To Ebola Patients


President Museveni has issued directive suspending herbalists and witchdoctors from attending to Ebola patients.He advised them to call health workers for transfer to hospitals.


“There is no witchcraft here.Ebola is a disease .The communities in the affected areas should know Wbola is deadly and spread through contacts with the affected person.”Museveni stated.


“Witchdoctors,traditionalists and herbalists should not accept sick people now.Suspend what you are doing”He added.



So far the deadly virus has already claimed the lives of 19 individuals.

The Ugandan president also asked the law enforcement officers to swing into action and apprehend any suspect of Ebola that fails to comply with health regulations in regard to isolation and quarantine.

Traditional healers believe they have powers to cure Ebola.Some civilians have been brainwashed and duped into preferring the witchdoctors and herbalists as opposed to conventional  medicine.


The World Health Organisation  reported 54 confirmed cases and 19 deaths since the first case  in the central district of Mubende on 20th September.


The most recent outbreak of Ebola was in 2019.

The Democratic Republic of Congo has experienced more deadly outbreaks of the Ebola outbreak.


Latest developments in the fight against Ebola are the clinical trials set to be rolled out in a few weeks.The trials are aimed at finding the right drug to combat the specific strain of Ebola -Sudan Ebola vaccine.

There is no vaccine for the particular strain of the virus.



The symptoms of Ebola do not show until after the incubation period that may last from two weeks to 21 days.


Museveni suggests that health workers should be given first priority when the vaccination is rolled out.

In his televised speech he also urged citizens to maintain calm because the health ministry has what it takes to contain the Ebola virus.


He also urged health workers to put into use proper protective gear while dealing with patients in the televised address.
