Pastor Jane Wairimu of the African Inland Church had the attendees at the Kenya Kwanza Alliance Women's Charter Conference on Friday, June 10 lost for words when she had a slip of the tongue when she referred to the coalition as “Kenya Kwisha”.

This was evoked a cocktail of reactions most of which were not pleasant, as the term holds significant impact following its use by rival political formations to disparage the alliance.

Pastor Wairimu was leading in prayers for the Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate Deputy President William Ruto and his running mate Rigathi Gachagua when during her deep intercession made the mistake and stopped mid-prayer, and proceeded to correct herself with her head bowed aware of the mishap but continued with the prayer anyway.

“Thank you God because of where we are heading, our next president (referring to the DP) is our friend, he has taught us about walking with you, he has taught us about being strong... Were it not for you Lord, he would have already lost the battle.

"On this date, we want to come into agreement with the Kenya Kwisha aargh... with the Kenya Kwanza women that every handwriting has been erased," she murmured.

It was evident that Ruto and Gachagua appeared uncomfortable when she mentioned 'Kenya Kwisha' despite her correction as the moment was captured live on television in the event held at the Nyayo National Stadium where hundreds of women had gathered to sign a charter with Ruto’s team

Ruto is expected to sign an agreement with the Kenyan women, declaring his commitment to group ahead of the August 9 polls.
