Azimio-One Kenya coalition party presidential hopeful Raila Odinga now wants Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati respond to their concerns raised  to address matters on election preparedness before the August polls.

The announcement has been confirmed by his legal chief advisor Paul Mwangi, saying their questions to the electoral body has been ignored.

"What concerns us is not that we insist you don’t use technology, yes use technology, use all the systems that have been described, whether you use them or not, but the law requires that you have them,"  said Mwangi.

In a letter sent to the IEBC on July 4, Raila accused the  Chebukati led commission  of failing to respond to their ten point questions that included among others engagement with stakeholders on the commission's election preparedness, reveal the status of the voters' register audit and provide an update on the deployment of election technology.

This has been Raila's commitment to the polls to put the electoral commission to live to its constitutional mandate so as to ensure that the general election is conducted free and fair.

The former Prime Minister is now issuing a seven  days ultimatum to the IEBC pushing for a  bilateral consultative meeting with the  commission t address some of the issues raised by his team.

On June 27, 2022, Odinga together with his running Martha Karua presented the letter to Wafula  Chebukati after the duo we're cleared to contest for the presidency by IEBC at the Bomas of Kenya.

It was at the same venue that Chebukati responded to Odinga's team saying that the commission has answers to all the issues raised  and will tackle each after completing the candidates’ verification exercise.

He further told Odinga that the electoral agency will hold a stakeholder meeting with all presidential aspirants, who he urged to attend in person, so they can iron out the arising issues.

“This is not the time to go through this because we have other candidates to clear, but we shall have a meeting with all the candidates where we can ventilate some of these issues. I hope you shall attend in person where I, as the returning officer, can iron out these issues and answer all the questions in this memo in writing,” said Chebukati.

According to Azimio-One Kenya coalition party the matter has not been dealt with by the IEBC.
