Deputy President William has asked for forgiveness from President Uhuru Kenyatta, acknowledging his shortcomings as his deputy during their ten-year reign in office.

He was speaking during the National prayer breakfast held at Safari Park hotel on Thursday, May 26, where he asked to be pardoned by the retiring President stating that he knew that he fell short of his boss's expectations, which escalated to his failure to deliver his promises to the people of Kenya.

He began his apology to the citizens, as they were on the receiving end of the feud between the two leaders, and then proceeded to plead with President Uhuru for pardon for his role in the fallout.

“We may have failed you in some areas, we have not been united as we should have been, and for that, I specifically ask for your forgiveness,” he stated.

"I also know that serving as the Deputy President, I may have fallen short of expectations of my boss His Excellency the President my good friend, I ask for your forgiveness," Ruto pleaded.

He stated that he was intent on ensuring that this year's elections would be peaceful, and hence wanted to head to the August 9 polls on a clean slate free of debt of hurt and free of debt of forgiveness.

He hence extended a message of good faith to those who wronged him as well and offered them his forgiveness.

"Many people have hurt me but in this prayer I forgive everybody," he stated.

He also wished President Kenyatta peace and a long life even as he heads to retirement.

In line with the spirit and healing, the DP also broke protocol by inviting Azimio's Martha Karua who is the running mate to his main competitor Raila Odinga to address attendees before inviting the President to make his remarks, in a bid to quell the political tension between the two factions.
