Uhuru Surprises Three Senior Cops With Promotions

Three senior officers were on Friday, June 23, treated to a great surprise by the head of state President Uhuru Kenyatta when they were made aware of the news of their promotion at a gathering at Nyeri Catholic archbishop Anthony Muheria's Episcopal residence.

The three, Director of the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, Paul Mumo, the Deputy Director of Forensics Margaret Karanja and Central Regional Police boss Manasseh Musyoka had accompanied DCI boss George Kinoti to visit the cleric who had organised the surprise that would take place during a prayer session at Muheria's house.

The prayers would be centered around the safety of police officers and their families as the country heads to the August 9 elections.

The head sleuth and his entourage had also accompanied by other senior officers and Nairobi Governor Anne Kananu who threw a surprise birthday party for the archbishop and Kinoti used the opportunity to divulge the news of the promotion.

"It was after the brief cake-cutting celebration and prayer that news of the elevation of the three from Commissioners of police to Assistant Inspector General, filtered into the room.," The statement by the DCI released on Saturday, June 25 stated.

The officers were grateful to President Uhuru for extending the gesture as it would go a long way in enhancing security in the country through their expertise in the field.

 "The officers who couldn’t hide their joy celebrated and thanked God for their elevation, as the Director General also thanked the Commander-in-Chief his excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta, for recognizing the officers’ efforts in fighting crime and rewarding them with promotions," the statement continued.

Mumo was elevated to the head of the elite Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) credited with responding to incidents of crime expeditiously and putting criminals where they belong.
