It was a game of cat and mouse at the Anniversary Towers on Tuesday, May 31, after the Usawa Kwa Wote presidential hopeful Mwangi Wa Iria camped at the  Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices demanding to see the chairman Wafula Chebukati to discuss his disputes where his name was omitted from the  Presidential Nomination Register.

As if his day could not get any worse, during his search for the IEBC chairman, he got stuck in a lift for more than 30 minutes after it malfunctioned sending his team of supporters who had accompanied him to the offices into a panic over the mysterious circumstances that the event played out.

Addressing journalists as they waited for the emergency responders to rescue the entrapped governor, his supporters who were already angry over the incident stated they suspected that this ploy to restrain their presidential aspirant from meeting with the electoral body's management.

"We are told that he is stuck in the elevator, this is a conspiracy here, trying to keep the governor held in the lift, this is an emergency," one of the supporters stated.

After about half an hour into the fracas, the governor emerged from the elevator, looking disheveled, sweating with his tie undone, and clearly shaken over the situation, and his security alleged that the guards had switched off the air conditioner where the Governor was stuck.

"My friend! Have you ever been stuck in a lift like that?" he posed panting as he addressed journalists who had been waiting for him outside the elevator.

The disgruntled presidential hopeful vowed to involve law enforcement, promising that he would report Chebukati as a missing person as he had been camping at all venues the IEBC chairman was and still he managed to escape him.

"I camped at Bomas until 11 p.m on Sunday, but he managed to duck me. On Monday, May 30, I went back to Bomas and then came back here, but I still have not met him. Where is he?" he posed.

"I have been looking for my returning officer and I am now going to file a report with the DCI that he is missing. He only appears in the media at night to mention me then vanishes" Wa Iria declared.

The IEBC on its part announced that the meeting in which it was to hear a dispute filed by Wa Iria following the omission of his name from the Presidential Nomination Register was off.

A statement from the electoral agency stated that “a new hearing day will be communicated at a later date.”
