The government has confirmed the supply of fake fertiliser to farmers across the country under the subsidized fertiliser programme.

In a move to right the ship, the state suspended a supplier under the programme, KEL Chemicals.

Farmers countrywide had raised concerns over the quality of ferltiliser availed to them by the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB). An exposé by Africa Uncensored led by renowned journalist John-Allan Namu unearthed the fertiliser scandal which dates back to November 2022.

On March 27, Agriculture Principal Secretary Paul Rono ordered an immediate halt to the distribution of NPK 10:26:10 fertiliser in the country.

"Field inspections conducted by top ministry officials revealed that the fertiliser supplied by the firm under the subsidy programme fails to meet required standards," PS Rono revealed at the time.
