Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has officially joined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party having secured her seat in the 2022 General Election as an independent candidate.

In the company of her supporters at the UDA headquarters in Nairobi on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, Governor Mwangaza announced that she is hoping to defend her seat in 2027 on the party's ticket.

"People have been asking me for direction come 2027. I am proud to show the people of Meru the way. The party is UDA," she said while addressing the media.

She appealed to members of the Meru County Assembly, a majority of whom are members of the UDA party to give her ample time as she seeks to deliver on her manifesto.

Mwangaza has survived two impeachment attempts initiated by Meru MCAs.

"As a mother, I plead with MCAs, let's work together. To all MPs, I know most of you are in UDA, le us work together," the Meru governor appealed.

Welcoming Mwangaza to the party, UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala urged members to embrace Kawira and support her ambitions.

Party Chairman and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire urged Meru legislators to work with Governor Mwangaza to deliver on development projects for their people.

“I take this opportunity as the UDA Chair, and a neighbour of Meru County, to state that the time to heal Meru County is now here,” Governor Mbarire stated.
