Deputy President William Ruto has once again found himself on the receiving after confidently quoting a nonexistent verse in the Bible during an interview with NTV last night.

Ruto, while explaining the narrative of how the disciples of Jesus asked him what he has for them quoted the verse given that they had left what they were doing for a living and followed him.

“Matthew I think 17:29, his disciples when they were following him asked him we have left our families and business since we used to be businessmen and come to follow you. What is in it for us?” Ruto stated.

The book of Matthew Chapter 17 has only 27 verses which then begged the question as to which verse DP Ruto aimed to quote.

It became apparent that it was just a small confusion as to the verse which the second in command aimed to quote was Matthew 19:27 which quotes ‘Peter answered him, “We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?”

The verse left social media on fire as netizens elicited mixed reactions

Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu a known critic of the deputy president left nothing to chance in the quoting mishap by telling the DP,” Mathew Chapter 17 ends at verse 27. Praise the Lord,” she quoted on Twitter.

Nairobi Governor Anne Kananu on her part posed: "Mathew 17:29? Which verse is that boss? It doesn't exist. Or we are using a different Bible?"

Ruto quoting the wrong verse has left tongues wagging as he has portrayed a character as a strong believer who has always lived to stand for contradicting.

Deputy President William Ruto intends to become an evangelist when he's done with politics. The DP made the declaration during a church service in Lavington, Nairobi in 2021
