Abubakar Aboud, the man who accused former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko of claiming his mother's grave for political gain has been summoned by Lamu elders.

In a new twist of events, one of the elders identified as Alawy Badawy revealed that Aboud's mother was still alive adding that she resided in Lamu.

“Action will be taken against him. They have called his family and he has been warned. His mother lives in Lamu. We can take the journalists to her right now,” he stated.

The angry elders now want Aboud to explain himself regarding the allegations against the Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant.

Further, the elders asked Sonko to visit them so that they can give him their blessings.

Aboud had on Saturday, May 7 lashed out at Sonko accusing him of using his mother's grave for political mileage, terming his actions as disappointing after the ousted Nairobi governor visited his mother's grave at the Kikowani Muslim Cemetery in the company of Wiper party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka and Kisauni MP, Ali Mbogo.

"This is the grave my mother Mariam Ali was buried seven years ago. Do not look for votes using graveyards. It is disappointing and saddening that Mr. Sonko can claim ownership of my mother's grave claiming it is his mother who was buried here," Aboud stated.

His sentiments sparked a debate among members of the public who castigated Sonko for taking it too far in the quest for leadership.
