‘Kindiki’ was yet again a big name on the campaign trail after Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga appointed Prof Isaiah Kindiki brother to Tharaka Nithi senator Prof Kithure Kindiki as his presidential agent. 

The appointment happened just a day after Tharaka Nithi Senator was named Deputy President William Ruto’s chief agent.

Others on the Odinga’s list are lawyer Saitabu ole Kanchori who will be Railas chief agent with Dr Caroline Karugu Nyeri deputy governor acting in the capacity of his deputy, (ODM) Executive Director Dr Oduor Ong’wen and Mr Odinga’s lawyer, Paul Mwangi.

Prof Kindiki’s appointment, an elder brother of Prof Kithure Kindiki, may be seen as a reward from Raila Odinga for his unending support as he has been a strong supporter of the former prime minister as witnessed in 2017 when his brother was serving as senate majority leader after the country’s last elections

The Tharaka Nithi senator later served as deputy speaker to the senate before the jubilee purge struck in 2020 where he was voted out.

Prof Isaiah Kindiki serves at the University of South Africa and is a research professor at the University of Venda, both of them in the Southern countryside of the continent.

The Kindiki affiliated with Azimio opted for academia after failing to secure Tharaka parliamentary seat in 2007 and thereafter left the country for South Africa.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC on Sunday 5th June 2022 cleared Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua to face off with their biggest competitors Deputy President William Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua who were cleared by the commission on Saturday 4th June
