Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi and Principal Secretary Paul Rono have been summoned to appear before the National Assembly on Monday, April 8, 2024.

The two Agriculture principals will be expected to shed light on the ongoing fake fertiliser scandal that has rocked the country causing panic among farmers nationwide.

In a bid to investigate and address the issue, members of parliament are expecting CS Linturi and PS Rono to explain how fake fertiliser made its way into National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) and eventually sold to unsuspecting farmers.

This comes after the Senate Committee for Agriculture Chaired by Kirinyaga Senator James Murango listened to submissions by renowned investigative journalist, John-Allan Namu after his company, Africa Uncensored aired an exposé on the matter.

The Senate committee also summoned CS Linturi, PS Rono, and chief executive officers from the Kenya Trading Corporation and the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).

In his submission, Namu told the Senate that several high ranking government officials reached out to him in a bid to quash the story.

“I would like to inform this committee that politicians across the political divide might have been involved in this fake fertiliser conspiracy, some even reached out to me seeking to have African Uncensored not to air this story where the majority of those affected are small-scale farmers,” said Namu.
